What is Heaven's View?
Heaven's View is a Christian ministry dedicated to
helping troubled female adolescents, ages 12-17. Our mission is to impart a
solid Biblical foundation to these challenged youth. Our foundational
scripture is Ephesians 2:10. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ
Jesus for good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” We
desire that each young woman recognize that she is wonderfully and fearfully
made, greatly valued by God, and that God has a distinct plan
for her individual life.
What are the criteria for admission?
We accept
girls between the ages of 12-17. However, our Review Board may consider a child
slightly younger or older. Our girls have typically experienced negative
emotional, physical, sexual, social, academic, or family dysfunction situations.
What types of girls will you not accept?
Initially, we can not accept a child who is actively
suicidal or who has exhibited extreme self-mutilation behavior, psychotic, or
displaying overly aggressive behavior. However, if these behaviors dissipate
over a period of time the child could be a Heaven's View candidate.
Will Heaven's View accept a youth who is
currently on medication such as anti-depressants or other prescribed drugs?
We can
usually accept an asthmatic child who uses an inhaler. More serious problems are
evaluated on a case by case basis by the Heaven's View Review Board. A medical
questionnaire must be completed in reference to the type of drug, usage,
purpose, and the length of time the child has taken the drug.
What type of program do we offer at Heaven's
View?
We provide Christian counseling; on-site Bible
based education, and a recreational program. Currently, we are building an
Equine Program. We have two horses and will eventually acquire more. Our daily
program consists of school, recreational activities, daily devotion and prayer.
Several times a week the girls have scheduled craft activities. Residents
participate on a level system and progress on that system as they achieve their
goals and objectives.
What is Heaven's View religious background?
We are Word of Faith. Heaven’s View attends an
interdenominational church with people from all backgrounds. For a copy of Tenets of Faith please click this
link provided or contact our office. The girls are required to attend our
church, Grace Covenant Christian Center,
and there are no exceptions.
What is the length of the program?
The length of stay depends on the individual’s
progress. Typically we ask parents/guardians to make a commitment for one year.
However, if the youth has not made sufficient progress it can be extended for
another year.
Do you have funding available to help
families that cannot afford the tuition cost?
At this time, we do not have funding available.
In the future, we will be able to assist families. We have a funding strategy
sheet that we can give to you that may help you explore other resources that you
can utilize to help pay tuition.
How do I start the admission process?
An Initial Application will provide us with
some general background information (which can be found on the Admission page).
A Long Application can be sent upon request. Applicants are required to have a
medical exam and STD testing, this testing is required before placement at
Heaven’s View.
How often can I visit or phone my daughter?
Initially contact with
residents occurs after 30 days. Then, residents may receive calls from home
every two weeks. However, this is contingent on the resident’s behavior. After 3
months, you may visit your daughter at the facility. However, this is contingent
on the behavior and attitude of your daughter.
After a designated time and with Board approval,
your daughter may be eligible for a home visit.
Is Heaven's View Accredited?
Upon enrollment at Heaven's
View, residents shall dual enroll with
Lighthouse Christian Academy (LCA). Lighthouse Christian Academy
is the Distance Learning Program with Accelerated Christian Education.
Lighthouse Christian Academy is fully accredited with the Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and with the Commission on International and
Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA).
